Countertop Convection Oven Tips

These are some of my tips to use when cooking with your Round Convection Oven. ¬†Some of these are commonsense and most people know them but you might learn something new ūüôā

This oven has brought an end to the traditional way of cooking. When you are cooking, the oven produces a circle of hot moving air, which cooks the food evenly so you can make delicious food whilst preserving the natural flavor and nutrition.  Some useful Countertop Convection Oven Tips will help you make your cooking even better.


  • Keeping the food approximately 1″ to 1.25″ from the glass wall to allow¬†maximum hot air circulation.
  • Don’t crowd food onto the racks. ¬†Use the upper and lower racks.
  • The higher rack is used for achieving crispness or browning of the food.
  • Do not put the oven lid directly on the countertop or table or cooking surface,¬†otherwise the cooking surface may leave a spot. ¬†The top is made of glass and metal and can burn some¬†bench tops. ¬†It gets hot so be careful and pay attention !
  • Always use wooden, heat proof plastic and nylon utensil while cooking. Metal¬†utensils may scratch the glass bowl container.
    • That’s the recommendation, I use metal tongs and never had a scratch.
  • All cooking times are approximate. ¬†Each oven is different and ¬†your personal preferences also decide cooking times. ¬†I always cook lamb more then ‘recommended’.
  • Always ensure food is fully cooked¬†inside before serving. ¬†The Convection Oven does cook from raw or frozen food, however you should always check before serving.
  • Put aluminium foil at the bottom of the glass bowl. ¬†It will catch all the drips and oil and make cleaning your oven even easier.


Broiling and Grilling

  • Place food directly on the low rack without covering with the high rack¬†when broiling/grilling. Use the high rack to bring food closer to heat source for¬†additional crispness and browning of food or to cook food to be well done.
  • If the meat or fish is very lean, brush the rack with cooking oil before¬†arranging the food on the rack. ¬†You can use a flavoured oil to give it a bit of a punch. ¬†Garlic and¬†Chilli Oil are good for this. ¬†You can also brush it over the food as it cooks.
  • To get an easy glaze, set the food 4 inches away from top heating unit.¬†Apply the desired glaze and broil at 400- 475oF / 200 – 245o C until the desired shade¬†of brown is reached. Fruit jams, preserves and jellies work well as a¬†glaze for broiled and grilled foods. ¬†Apricot and Plum jam are great for this.


  • When baking cakes, biscuits, brownies, muffins and cookies make sure¬†the containers fit within the glass bowl and on top of rack.
  • Disposable¬†aluminum foil mini-loaf pans work well as they allow for faster and even¬†cooking.
  • Preheating is not necessary for baking in a convection oven. Do¬†not overcook or burn food items while using aluminum.

Air Frying

  • Little or no oil is used, yet the effect is like pan-frying or deep frying.
  • If oil¬†is used, only a thin layer of oil should be evenly applied to the food with¬†the aid of a pastry brush or a oil spray bottle.
  • Spray or brush vegetable oil onto the rack to assist with easier removal¬†of cooked food.
  • Once food has finished cooking, remove the top lid from the glass bowl,¬†otherwise, the steam will cause the food to become soggy instead of¬†crispy.

NOTE: Never fill the glass bowl with oil.  The convection oven is NOT to be used as a deep fryer.  Also, stop cooking immediately if food starts to burn.


  • ¬†To steam, place food in a microwave safe bowl or small metal pan on top of the¬†low rack making sure that the food does not contact the sides of your container.
  • Pour water or broth into the bottom of the bowl or pan using half cup of liquid for¬†every 1lb of food.
  • Cover tightly with aluminum foil making sure food does not¬†come in contact with the foil.
  • Place wrapped container into the oven and cook at¬†350F for 5 ‚Äď 10 minutes depending upon individual taste.

These are tips that I use every time I use my Countertop Convection Oven.  Most of them are second nature now and I do them without thinking.

    Great tips on how to use a counter top convenction oven. Hubby has burnt himself on it and it was sure hot! He is now more careful. and I warn our boys when its on because it is so easy to have an accident.
    We like the fact that our one self cleans. Put in a pit of water with dishwashing liquid and turn it on to cleaning setting and its down.
    Such a great way to cook, no messs, and the food taste so much nicer ūüôā

      Hi Lisa, I’m glad you enjoyed the tips. I use the self cleaning myself when it’s very messy. The food is so much better when cooked in the convection oven.

    Good day

    Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

    I have recently received a convection oven (round) from a friend.

    I need some help on the operating instructions. Can you place food in the bowl without using the racks. Place it directly on the bottom of the bowl. For example if you want to make a stew with sauces and cook the meat in the sause.

      Hi Kobie, I’ve never cooked directly into the bowl. Some instruction booklets have said you can, however I prefer to use a casserole dish and place the dish on the bottom tray, just above the glass.

    I’ve tried to cook a chicken in it and it was dry dry dry….what went wrong??
