Convection Ovens Can Bake Frozen Food

Convection Ovens are great for baking Frozen Food

You can set the temperature and not have to worry about over or under cooking your Frozen Food. As with all Convection Ovens, when you first get it, you need to find out what the correct temperature is to cook your food.  I use the recommended temperature and reduce the cooking time.

If it says cook at 170o C / 340o F I do however I will drop the cooking time by 5 – 10 minutes and check when it’s done.  If it needs longer, just give it 5 minute increments until it’s ready.  I could give you exact cooking times but each convection oven is different.  Experiment and get to know your oven so it can cook delicious food each time.

What Can be Baked?

So far in my convection oven I’ve baked frozen food such as

  • Sausage rolls
  • Meat pies
  • Chicken pies
  • Frozen fish
  • Frozen chips
  • Prawn cutlets
  • Spring rolls
  • Dim Sims
  • Lasagne
Each of them cooked without problems and without any need to watch them to make sure they didn’t burn.

This is a picture of me cooking a Chicken and Leek Pie.  It was delicious.

No Oil Required

Cooking the prawn cutlets, chips and spring rolls meant they weren’t cooked in hot oil so I saved some calories there.  I also didn’t have to get the oil cooker out, wait for it to heat, and then have to worry about oil spitting anywhere, then having to empty the oil out and dispose of it safely.

I haven’t yet found any frozen food that I can’t bake successfully in my oven.  Of course, anything frozen that is in a plastic container has to be removed from it, but you have to do that in any oven.

Microwave Frozen Food

I have also successfully cooked in my convection oven products that are frozen and intended to be microwaved.  I removed all the plastic and placed the frozen meal in a glass container, covered it with foil and cooked it.  I usually don’t do that, but I was curious to see if it would work and it did.  Of course you have to pick the meal, this was a frozen lasagne.  I don’t think any of the microwavable meals with vegetables would have worked but I can experiment if anyone is interested.

Frozen Meat

I’ve also baked frozen meat in my convection oven.  All the cooking shows demonstrate cooking from frozen to cooked and I wanted to try it out.  I did a steak and did a bit of experimenting.  I’m not a big fan of frozen meat, I have a butcher on the way home and I tend to drop in and get my meat as I need it, however I had the steak in the freezer and it worked

Meat from frozen to cooked does work in the convection oven.  I had a nice meal and enjoyed my steak dinner that night.

Time Saver

As a mum, being able to bake frozen foods when I’ve had a busy day means that I can come home, throw the food in the convection oven and just wait for the ding to say it’s cooked.

I’m really glad that Convection Ovens Can Bake Frozen Foods.  Have you used your oven in that way?  I do all the time.  Let me know what you think.

    Hi Tania,
I have a convection oven and I didn’t know I could cook frozen food with it.
But as you say the meat turns out nice to eat so I may have try that next time as I do all the cooking at home and it’s all about doing it quick and easy.
In summer I use the BBQ and plenty of fresh garden salads as it’s too hot and messy to cook inside.
I have been using the crock pot as the weather has cooled now but I will seriously consider using the convection oven next time and try it myself.
    Thanks Keith

This oven is an amazing piece of equipment. I liked that part where you said you just had to wait for the “ding” and it is cooked. Like Keith I have just started using the slow cooker but it sounds like the two are really for different purposes.
    Thank you for the information.

Hi Jenny, both the convection oven and the slow cooker are about saving time in the kitchen. Both are essential in mine. I’m looking forward to some home cooked soups, stews and braised dishes during winter.

I’m amazed at just what can be achieved with a convection oven. Being able to cook from frozen is great – much better than putting food in the microwave to defrost.

Hi Jan, I keep finding things I can cook in the convection oven :) I used to defrost pies, then put them in the oven, then have to remember to remove them. Not any more, it’s just in the convection oven and enjoy.

What a nifty little device. It is such a waste to heat up a normal size oven to cook one pie. The convention oven is ideal and a good energy saver.
